In Night-night House, the second book in the series, this book introduces the concept of poetry and rhyming into the series, which children love, to help increase interest in reading.  This book capitalizes on the concept of pairing a picture with a simple word, which is one of the first reading skills many children develop.  As the book progresses, the vocabulary and reading challenge increases with more challenging words.  The structure of this book is based on rhyme pairs and is focused on common children’s sight word nouns and phonic-based words. This book progresses in difficulty from consonant-vowel-consonant words (easy short vowel words to sound out) to incorporating a few harder phonic blend and long vowel words (split vowel digraphs).  This book also introduces the concept of searching for smaller images within a larger image, where you can encourage your child to scan the larger image to find the individual images on the page.  This book introduces commas as punctuation in the book.

Besides rhyming and pairing simple pictures with easy words to read, the other developmental skills in this book that are highlighted in this book are developing a relaxing way to approach falling asleep, through visualizing and saying goodnight to calming items in the home.  Every parent wants to help their child develop a strong and successful sleep routine and to wake well-rested!
